Well that didnt take long...

We came out of the supermarket today to find a ding in the driver door of the new car, and a key scratch about 3' long on the passenger side.

Nice job folks...

Look on the bright side, you no longer have to worry about getting your first ding. After all, you're driving a used car now...

Re: Well that didnt take long...

Nope. We parked right in front of the store...there was no car on the passenger side. Its a nice deep, long dig. I dont remember what was parked on the left side of me, but I hugged the curb on the right side, so I was a good 2.5-3' away.

I told my wife when we bought the car "this might as well have a sign on it that says 'belongs to rich folk, please **** with the car'".

For about 30 seconds I went all "csi/law and order" and was going to call the store to see if they had video footage on tape I could look at. Then I figured "whats the point"? even if I see whoever did it, nobody's going to do anything about it.

I was going to say the same thing, but didn't want to rub any more salt in your wound. Sad but true.

Did you flip someone off on the way into the parking lot? j/k

Sorry to hear about your car. It's that VERY reason why I won't but a BMW to be up to par with my coworkers. I settled for a two year old nissan. Ding away.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

Thats why I like our 6+ and 5+ year old cars. Havent had a ding or scratch put in 'em since they were practically new.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

My volvo came pre-dinged (car door opened into it, from the looks of it, just a scratch) but it is enough to count and make the next not hurt so bad ( I hope).

I had the first real thing go wrong with my Jeep this week, the driver side window wouldn't roll up. 100k warranty covered it, and I have 38k left on said warranty, so I will monitor closely to see if I should kick it to the curb right before it expires!

CFB,

Sorry to hear about your car.

The second week I had my Lexus I parked in a municipal lot. Came back to find some SOB had keyed the hood with a 4 inch long scratch down to the bare metal. I carried comprehensive coverage on my auto insurance with a $100 deductible so I had it fixed. I was worried that Allstate would raise my rates but it didn't happen. Happy ending.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

I dropped the deductible on this car from my usual lofty levels, at least for a year or two. Still $500 though...

Tempted to leave it. If I fix it, it'll probably happen again.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

Within a month of getting our brand new fyord-blue Passat, some bastard keyed it across both doors. I decided not to paint or repair the scratch, figuring that the next bastard wouldn't bother with a pre-scratched car. WRONG. Now I have key scratches on both sides. Sigh.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

You know those lifelike decals of bullet holes that you can put on your vehicle, I wonder if they have the same thing in scratches and dents. You could apply fake scratches, on both sides, and the perps, hopefully will pass it by, and when you go out for a special night, or time to sell, you could peel off the decals and like new.
Maybe that could be my retirement income - selling boomers scratch.- I know, I know - Company name "Starting from Scratch"

CFB that's just plain aggravating. Why do people feel the need to deface or destroy others property? I just don't get it.

CFB, I had a new Mercedes on order, thought about that situation, cancelled the order and stayed with my 10 year old Volvo.

Some people are just jerks, jealous of what they can't have.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

CFB,

Sorry about the car abuse.

I have experienced that time and time again with my Acura. I find that people seem to want to take out their hostility towards anybody that appears to be better off than they are. Deep door dents that could only happen if done on purpose, key scratches on the hood, doors and read of the car. I even have one on the roof! I thought about taking the car in (2001 model MDX) to get it de-dented and repainted but I am sure it will just be a fresh target so I live with all the physical abuse for now.

There is nothing you can do to keep this from happening except maybe park the car WAY out in the parking lot away from any other cars. Otherwise, it is just something we have to deal with when you have an "uppity car".

Re: Well that didnt take long...

Well, the way I look at it is...I have a car with a scratch in it. Easily fixed. Whoever did it is a weasel scumbag with no life whatsoever whose only ray of sunshine was damaging my property when I wasnt around. Not easily fixed. Usually ends badly.

Expect more car abuse from these creeps. It never seems to stop and I stopped getting pissed with each new scratch and dent because it is really out of my control to stop it short of never leaving the car alone in a parking area or hiring an armed guard to shoot car abusers on sight.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

I do expect it. I had a chat with the Mrs. last night about where we should and shouldnt drive the car. Work, the 'nice' supermarket, grandmas house, grandpas house, etc: good. Wal-mart, k-mart, the 'bad' supermarket, her hairdresser thats in the worst part of town: bad, take the old SUV.

Removing it from the temptation of the major idiot sinkholes should help.

Re: Well that didnt take long...

Sorry about that; it wasn't me.* Probably a couple of spoiled-brats who need a$$kicking counseling.

Another reason why I don't buy new cars.* You can scratch mine; probably wouldn't notice it.

Here in Texas we have the phenomonon of good old boys with their huge, and pretty new truck.* They usually park it so it takes up two spaces in a busy parking lot, so you won't accidentally scratch it. Wonder if it does them any good or does it invite anger from someone who had to park across the street for lack of a space.*
