What is the building material in this picture (now fixed)

Can anyone recognize the ugly vertically rippled siding on this house?

Vinyl or metal? From the pic it sort of looks like corrugated metal roofing material installed vertically.
 
I was told it was cedar. I knocked on it and it did sound like wood. Several houses around here that were built in the 50s have this on the top third of the front of the house with thick cedar plank siding below.
 
Looks like "board and batten siding." Material could be any wood (or even 4x8 sheets that emulate board and batten. A google search of that term yielded a number of images that look to be the same thing.
 
We have lots of board and batten siding around here... like in the pic below....the house I grew up in had it and one wall of the house we owned had it. The picture in the OP looks a lot more ripply though.

This is from a similar house. It is an extreme closeup of what looks like two boards with paint peeling off except the paint is very thick looking and I'm not sure it is all paint.
