Just ordered and rec'd a cutter and foil for my Braun shaver last week. The cost was exactly half of the price that our local stores were charging.
We are buying more and more on line. Selection and price are two reasons. Lack of retail staff, staff knowledge, stocking levels are other reasons.
So, in the past two or three months we have ordered online a king size bed, kitchen knives, surround sound system for our TV, leather recliner chair, rugs, bedding, clothing, books, lamps, luggage, and toys for our grandchild. We have been very pleased with every purchase...most especially the higher end products.
We are in our mid sixties. We understand why retailers are challenged. Our children buy twice as much or more than we do online. The web has become their go to shopping destinations. It was easy for us to make the switch. We have been buying and booking travel products on the web for many years. Consumer goods were just an extension of this.
DW still likes to shop in person, me not so much. In fact I now dislike it intensely. I will take web shopping any day....choice, selection, price, convenience, etc.

USB Hub - Amazon Basics brand. Price was great and it was easy to assemble and install. I have to say I have never been disappointed in the Amazon Basics products.

Hearing aid batteries (approximately 20% of the cost at the hearing aid store!), cookie cutters, and a golf travel case (on sale).

We are about the same ages, I've been buying hobby stuff online since I was able to (mail order before that) and generally prefer that to brick & mortar stores. Now I prefer online for almost everything. I stopped in a hobby shop a few days ago just to check out what they had - but saw nothing I was interested in. "But we can order it for you and it'll be here in about three days".
Well, duh. I can do that from my keyboard and someone will deliver it, and for a (likely) lower price. I wish the hobby store owner well, but good luck.

Combo of low tech and high tech! Nice. I used thin tape in the engineering / construction world almost 40 years ago to produce graphs and such on transparencies for an overhead projector.

Winter is coming...
So I figure I'd keep the White Walkers at bay with a nice little desktop ceramic heater.

These are good kit. Have a mechanical Simplex Lock mechanism. Very reliable.
The pistol cases are great for hotel rooms to keep your valuables in if you don't trust the little safes in the room - the ones that everybody who works there can open in milliseconds.
Easy to secure in a room with cable and lock.
Pro Tip - don't ever forget your combo as these things require the right tools to get opened up. .... Don't ask me how I know...
This one is actually for the truck

Bed Frame, humungous table, Window Frames, etc., or the little safe in the wall by running cable thru the space in hinges. Main thing is to make it so much trouble to steal or haul off - the basturds go away....to easier pickings...
We also loop our pooters thru/on the cable.
Since on days off - we usually go to the Casino's so Ms. gamboolgal and I can play the pokerzzz...... - we have a good bit of cash, jewelry and stuff....
We have had items stolen in years past, also know at least 3 separate folks personally who have had several thousand in cash stole....
The years of us traveling light - was decades ago......

This is the most recent thing I wanted to, but did not order from Amazon.
My external monitor died. I decided to buy another at Amazon. Prime 2 day eligible. In the checkout, it gives me a delivery date of Oct 30. That’s 5 days, not 2 (order date is Oct 25 at 9 am). So I check the 1 day option, and it says Oct 27 delivery. That’s next day, but only if we start counting tomorrow.
I bought the monitor from B&H Photo. Same price, 2 day delivery. Except, they count days differently than Amazon, and their 2 days arrives the same time as Amazon’s 1 day.
I’ve seen this before with Amazon. Shipping costs must be harsh on their bottom line. Redefining calendar day delivery time, though, isn’t going to help in the long run.

Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch / Premium / Ultra Plush / Cloud-like Mattress, King
We bought a much cheaper one for granddaughters visits, and so happy with that that we are upgrading master mattress. WAY less than mattress stores. We shall see if happy or not.

I agree. I order tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff through Amazon for my side business, and I've been seeing this more and more often. The 2 day delivery is pretty much meaningless if it only starts when they actually ship the item.
I recently ordered a couple of $3K audio components for my customer. The product page showed them as "in stock and prime eligible with 2 day delivery". I also ordered a bunch of other items, which were all delivered in 2 days. But the audio components kept showing up as "preparing for shipment" with an expected delivery date that had already passed. Finally, a week or so later I got a message that the delivery was going to be delayed, no ETA. The product page was still showing "in stock, 2 day delivery". I contacted Amazon twice, but was basically talking to myself. No help, no explanation. I finally found the items available on Apple's website and ordered them. Of course I then got a shipping notification from Amazon, so I cancelled the Apple order. The items were finally delivered, followed on the same day by another Amazon notification that they were being delayed.
It's obvious that Amazon has outgrown it's own systems and can't keep up. My biggest complaint was that they were still showing the item as "in stock, 2 day delivery" when they were pushing 2 weeks of delay. I get 5% cashback on my Amazon card, which is a nice perk with all the buying I do. If not for that I'd drop them way down on my list of companies to do business with. And yes, B&H is a great company, but no cashback option other than what my credit card offers.

If you look at order when ordering, it "usually" says order within so many hours and minutes to get 2 day delivery.Like this on an item in my cart today.
Guaranteed delivery date: Oct. 27, 2017 If you order in the next 11 hours and 47 minutes (Details)
If they don't deliver on 27th, I can chat online and they will offer to extend my Prime membership 1 month, a $8.25 value. I did this last week for the first time(and I feel it was the post office who was late, not Amazon)
Maybe this help some with the pain for less than 2 day shipping. Some items cut off at 9 or 10 am for 2 day shipping in my experence.
YMMV
I dislike Amazons politics but love thier customer service. Again, YMMV
