Do you mean daytime running lamps? If so, there may be logical reasons. Where I live, they are mandatory.

DH & I dump our change in a jar, and when it fills up we bring it to the Coinstar machine at our local supermarket, where we cash in the coins for Amazon credit.

Nope definitely the fog lights, goofy little round things on the lower bumper, in addition to any head light or DRL.

Have taken four Royal Carribbean cruises since 2010. This is standard procedure. Having taken care of sick children and knowing that many serious infections in hospitals have occurred due to improper hand washing, I applaud this and embrace this. You should too.

Thanks for clarifying that. It's amazing that somebody would't know enough to turn their head to the side when they sneeze. Disgusting

I had no paid sick time, & no paid personal days for the entire 30 years I spent at my company. Plus, the attendance policy was absolutely draconian.

But I'm collecting a pension & retired at age 53.
So I guess I can't complain

I did! I do not understand why you thought differently.

Please also read my other post following the one you quoted.

During off-hours, when the hand-sanitizing sentry was not there, I saw people walking by the automatic machines without using them.

Or sit at a traffic light for what seem's like eternity with a turn signal on?

Or worse yet, turn signal on in a designated turn lane. It doesn't make the car turn any faster or easier, and we know you're turning.....

Too bad this is now a standard the world over. Doesn't seem to matter whether it is $, £ or €

I did see a "gas war" in Greece where neighboring stations differed by .003 Euro. Go figure.

You mean during the day time? I use my fog lights for more than just fog. I use them if driving at night when it's raining and when driving at night on a road with no lights around it. They help a lot for more than just fog.

Since you make it very clear that you don't like pennies, I'm going to assume you use cash, at least occasionally.

If you go to checkout, & the total is $9.96, and you pay with a $10 bill, do you tell them to keep the 4 pennies ?

That would seem like a reasonable solution for those that have such a disdain for them.

In my experience, they have two problems:
1) The add-on models bolted over or under the bumper (or on a roll bar) seem to be well out of adjustment on most cars that have them. So, they frequently aimed in such a way as to blind other drivers.
2) The illumination pattern of true "fog lights" (as opposed to driving lights) is quite broad. Broader than typical standard headlights, spilling over into the left, into opposing traffic. So, they blind other drivers. They should not be turned on when another car is approaching, or could be approaching closely (ie coming around a turn).

If they are adjusted correctly and used correctly, then I suppose they wouldn't be a problem (or even noticed). It sounds like that isn't always the case.

I'm not sure what your objection is... both would be legally required if you intend to turn.

Quote:
The driver argued that she was not required to use a turn signal because she was in a left-hand-only turn lane, where there was already present a traffic control device warning motorists in the left turn only lane, and where it is physically impossible to take a right turn or to proceed straight, due to road configurations.

But the court found the language of RSA 265:45 very clear, stating no person shall turn any vehicle "without giving an appropriate signal." The law requires a turn signal 100 feet prior to the turn. The defendant also argued that there were no other vehicles around, so no turn signal was required. That argument failed.

+1 When we picked up our new car the salesperson suggested that we just turn on the fog lights and leave them on... not happening.

Worse yet... we live on a lake and frequently see pontoons cruising around at night with both nav lights and docking lights (like auto headlights) on.... ugh!

In many places, it's also illegal to back out onto a main road (you're expected to drive straight out, forward). So be careful about calling the cops - it could backfire.

Have no problem with the use of signal while moving, but do I have to have it blast in my eyes at night for three minutes while sitting still? Turn it on just before you turn when you are moving.

I'm 6'5" tall and perhaps it only effects me as I sit up higher and am able to see over the hood. Those bright flashing yellow lights in my face are like waterboarding to me, I would never be able to keep state secrets for very long.

Have you been checked for cataracts recently? What you describe sure sounds like one of the symptoms. I'm painfully aware of how irritating bright lights can be for those of us with that particular eye problem.

As was noted, it's legally required to activate the turn signal well in advance of the turn (distance, not time). So if they pulled up to the light with no signal, then turned it on just before they executed the turn, they broke the law (by not activating it at least 100 feet in advance of the intended turn).

And notwithstanding your noted physical stature, I still don't see how any turn signal can "blast you in your eyes." It's one of the dimmer lights on a car. They're just following the law.

My peeves:

  • People who recline their seats on an airplane on any flight less than 2 hours.
  • People who insist on checking/buying/cashing lottery tickets at the checkout at the grocery store. Double points if that's the ONLY thing they're doing. Seriously, go to a frickin' casino if you want to gamble, I'm trying to buy eggs here. Triple points if it's the express lane. I hope there's a special corner of hell for you people.
  • Phone scammers. I've given up any semblance of being polite to them. I'm as rude as can be without being profane, threatening, or sexual (i.e., anything that could open me up to criminal charges). Knowing they're in some call center in India or Pakistan. "Did you know that over here, we flush our toilets with water clean enough to drink, while you guys wash your laundry in the same river you pee in? Doesn't it suck to live where you are? Boy oh boy, you must be miserable. Stinkin' hot all the time, no showers in your slum - you must smell awful." I just keep it up until they hang up.
  • Clickbait. It drives me nuts that it's infested otherwise legitimate websites, like CNN. "16 Actors you won't believe were born another race!" "She went to her gynecologist - you won't BELIEVE what he found inside her!" "The superfood your doctor would die before telling you about!" "Think you know the alphabet? Think again!"
