What the heck ARE these?

What the heck ARE these?

I've seen several trucks hauling these things. These have their vertical parts wrapped, but others have been bare metal. I'm guessing they have something to do with energy generation/distribution, or maybe some kind of wave generation, but they remind me of the machines in the original Frankenstein movies!


Any ideas?

They appear to be insulators for transformers, normally used in electric power substations (where high voltage lines are reduced to more manageable voltages for distribution to homes and businesses).
