Don't want to bring out all the worriers, but a large scale ebola outbreak in the US.

There is a lot to be said about health and aging. Simple things like a slip on the ice, a drunk driver crossing the median, or even a identity theft could derail you for a bit.

One thing not thought about lately, is the impact of inflation. If we ever return to 18% inflation, like we did in the 70s, it would devastate bond funds. It would also derail the stock market.

No, I'm not a doomer, just amped up from a really good show.
I could see a time in the future when Roths gains are taxed as ordinary income. If it ever even gets to committee, I'm buying a flame-retardant mattress and filling it up.

So true...all the naysayers said his diet was dangerous, but it took a slip on some sidewalk ice to kill him.

Might be a good idea to add some tips to your port now, just in case.

I didn't, but now that you call it to my attention, the melody and tempo are definitely French. I always thought it was a trifle too bouncy for its somber topic, and now I know why

Brel also wrote the original "Ne me quitte pas", which was translated into the English version "If you go away".

Disability, dementia, and the like aren't farfetched, but those are what I worry about.

For outside events (although, not really farfetched), and not mentioned yet: Repeat of Carrington Event would wreak havoc for a good year or two and leave casualties in its wake.

Solar storm of 1859 - Wikipedia

Quote:
The solar storm of 1859, also known as the Carrington Event,[1] was a powerful geomagnetic solar storm in 1859 during solar cycle 10. A solar coronal mass ejection hit Earth's magnetosphere and induced one of the largest geomagnetic storms on record. The associated "white light flare" in the solar photosphere was observed and recorded by English astronomers Richard C. Carrington and Richard Hodgson.

Studies have shown that a solar storm of this magnitude occurring today would likely cause widespread problems for modern civilization. There is an estimated 12% chance of a similar event occurring between 2012 and 2022.[2]

I'm still waiting for the 1973 toilet paper shortage as reported by Johnny Carson. That would be unexpected and devistating.

I was going to say "well, at least we'd still have the Sears catalog" but I'm not sure they print one anymore. At least not the massive one they used to.
