What's your Personality Type? Briggs-Myers

Most everyone has done this before, but for those who haven't...

What does this have to do with FIRE you ask? It seems to give some insight on the tone of this forum as supposedly "the three most common types among early retirees are ISTJ, INTJ, and INTP." So if you're an ESFP, many members here may seem (very) "different" to you.

Here's the free online test, only takes a few minutes and no one will see your results but you. Personality test based on Jung and Briggs Myers typology

Sharing is entirely optional, I'd have done a poll if I was encouraging replies/results.

I took it again just to see how I've changed over the past 20 odd years. I've always been an INTJ, but more extroverted (good IMO) and sensing now than when I was younger.

Is There a Retire Early Personality Type?

It occurs in the website (www.retireearlyhomepage.com) which is an older sister website to our beloved www.early-retirement.org website. Much on the retireearlyhomepage is familiar to us here but much of it seems kind of dated by a decade or so now.

The link provides a detailed analysis of the Myers Briggs personalities that make-up the early-retirement type person.

(For those familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) the three most common types among Retire Early board participants were ISTJ, INTJ, and INTP.)

Still an INTJ. Softened up on the J over the years and stronger on the I by this test (I used to split it down the middle - turned the intro and extroversion on and off as necessary is the way it was described to me), but since the real test is like 750 or so questions I would lend more towards its results.

I remember when I first took the test - the proctor (forgot his name) used me and another person (ESFP) as test subjects to show how two extremes reacted in situations presented to them. He told our reactions to the group prior to us entering the room and we were isolated while he did the other - he hit the nail on the head with his descriptions of what our reactions would be.

Interesting.
Had a test administered by a previous employer almost 20 years ago. I was ENTJ then. But the E was so close to the line.

This test put me at INTJ.

How does an ER answer questions like this one? "You like to be engaged in an active and fast-paced job". Pul-eeze! I'd rather not be engaged in any job at all, but a slow and inactive job is even worse.

As for the outcome: no surprises here, ,either. I always come out as an INTJ of some kind.
