Where are you ?

I get the impression that most posters are from North America.

Is that true ?
If so, why ?

Re: Where are you ?

By North America, I presume you mean Canada and the U.S.

I think similar language and culture would be a determining factor.

Canada has roughly a tenth of the population of the U.S. and almost all are a short drive from the border. Your TV is our TV, and the 2 economies are largely integrated.

Although Mexico is part of NA, I have detected very few Mexicans on board.

Some here, are from the U.K.

But I suspect our cousins in Australia and New Zealand just haven't heard about us.

True. Some reasons are...

1) We speak english here.

2) US workers are the most stressed workers in the world and are more likely to want to RE.

3) We mostly have topics related to the USA such as US interest rates and SWR related to the US markets.

4) If you do a google search in a foreign country, you may not find this website as easily.

I wonder if other countries have their own "Retire Early" websites?

Re: Where are you ?

What about other locations like Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Taiwan, China, India, Israel, etc etc etc ?

Could the RE concept not translate well ? Can't be.

Are there folks from other countries that don't want to comment ?
It sure would be nice to get some other perspectives from folks from other parts of the world.

Side note: I was in Europe doing some work with a new factory. There were several engineers from Japan and I spoke with one of them briefly. By way of introduction, I mentioned that I had been to Japan and been very impressed with their high speed trains. His comment back was words to the effect... big deal, you have planes going between all your cities. I was quite surprised! Different perspective.

Re: Where are you ?

The retirement concept in a number of other counties (primarily developing countries) is centered around the family. That is, you work till you get old then your children take care of you till you die. No social nets to catch you or pensions or income streams from investments for the most part.

This reminds me of crows. Research has found that urban crows tend to be young and "single" (without mates yet). They make a lot of noise and eat junk food. Suburban crows tend to have mates and are raising their young. Rural crows are the most shy.

I doubt most people notice this, but Martha is correct. Urban crows
frequently walk around like pigeons while most rural crows won't let
you within a quarter mile. Interesting, although they do have a rep
as being smart birds.

Re: Where are you ?

Suburban crows will get use to you if they realize you are the source of the food at the feeder LOL
