I did OK with most of the countries in the Middle East. Lots of trouble with the "stans" other than Pakistan & Afghanistan, and identifying the countries west of Algeria & Sudan.
Been a long time and several changes have occurred since I took "Political Geography" in college...

Thank these wars for teaching us all geography.A few years ago i couldnt even tell you where most of these countries were.

Me too!
My only problem in the Middle East was Qatar vs Bahrain (and I wasn't positive about Oman/Yemen but got it right). The Eastern *stans I got all mixed up, the Western I sort of guessed right.
I'm very good at Africa, probably on account of my daughter's travels in West Africa, my friend the business professor who's been to Uganda recently, and mainly due to current planning for our trip to Zambia and Botswana next summer. A couple of days ago I looked up some historical maps of Africa...Portuguese East Africa, German Southwest Africa, etc...those lands are reaping the whirlwind now. (Sometimes I see the War in Iraq through that lens.) Botswana is in relatively good shape in part due to not finding diamonds there till the 60s (post-colonialism) and because it was such a remote and dry backwater compared to the more arable and minable lands of the British in Africa. (gee whilikers, I actually made the typo "Brutish" in place of "British"!)

19 out of 35. Central Africa and the misc central asian former republics are terra incognita for moi. And I don't care.

I have my stans down pat, thanks to a very interesting book by a CIA operative named Gary Schroen -First In.
I sucked in Africa, once south of the vountries with Mediterranean coasts.
