Haven't seen him here for awhile?

Re: Where's John?
He said Good Bye and Good Night a few weeks ago.
I think he's gone.
I'm sure he'll be back at some point. He sort of makes things interesting.
Need to here more from () also.

I must have missed that thread. Can you point me toward it? I enjoyed his humor and hope he returns.

I miss JGault and parenthesis dude, too! I also miss Caroline's well thought out posts. She hasn't been around for long time.

Re: Where's John?
That was such a small goodbye I missed it.
I think more of a rant would have been interesting.

Re: Where's John?
We should start a contest; When will JG return? My guess is he'll be back not later than 11/20/2005. He won't be able to resist pontificating. This assumes he's not traveling or hospitalized. If he's able, he's back in five days.... or less.

Re: Where's John?
I've seen some recent posts from JG over on Raddr's board.
Maybe he's just getting his thoughts together.
Na, that can't be. He never bothered to think first.
But I do miss him, in a strange sort of way.

Re: Where's John?
I miss him too, well only when I'm feeling maudlin . A number of years ago an old friend acquaintance from the bus depot days was in town. We went out for a pizza and beer. He told a story about going home one night and part of it included passing a serious rollover accident on semi-busy road. He ignored the victims completely, just making a derogatory remark about them while getting to his point in the story. I realized he wasn't a good person that night.
After that when checking out tenants for apartments, after the patter and exchange of information and showing the place, I would always ask myself as he or she walked away "Would this person help a stranger on the side of a road?" It is my basic screening method and has worked fairly well for years to make on-the-spot decisions about people's character. JG would stop and help.

Yup.
He checked this board last week but he seems happy at Raddr's.

Good one Greg. Can you explain what you mean by bus depot days?

Re: Where's John?
I kinda miss John - in the beginning I couldn't take him, but after awhile, he seemed to be the opinion I could alway bank on being contrary or opposite to the general concensus.* When a poor young dreamer would pose the question "can I retire on a million dollars?", John was the only one who gave them hope.* I suppose if you followed his advise, you would have some pretty hard times, but I really can't imagine anyone following his advise.* I also admired him for being able to take a lot of criticism - I can't imagine Nord's post did him in.* *

Re: Where's John?
When I first came to the board, JG's posts hit me (in the wrong way) but I also saw him a little bit like the welcome wagon. Whenever someone posted something, there he was throwing his two cents in.
When we look at demographics in this country, the majority of people here are going to have more of a JG retirement than anyone elses here on this board. At times his diatribes were hard to take (being a liberal) and seeing some of the hypocrisy in his posts. But after a while, he's like the cranky uncle you have that tells you how wonderful everything was in his day, he walked thirty miles up hill to school and all the kids today are worthless. You just smile and say to yourself, "oh that's just uncle so-and-so" but in a strange way, you do enjoy his company.
I think anyone that would just take JG's advice on retirement (without doing any other research) is probably too dumb to pull off an early retirement. People who have Er'd are bright, plan ahead and double check their facts. They are not the people who would take JG's ramblings as the gospel for ER.
I do miss JG and () posts for different reasons. Except when they were going at each other, I think each one, in their own way, contributed to the atmosphere which I see as a group of wonderfully eccentric, think-for-themselves, collection of individuals each with their own style and quirks.

Re: Where's John?
Forums, and especially this one, are fascinating. The character of the forum shifts in a fluid, fog-like way as posters come and go.

Since you brought up the subject of foggy fluids, what's the 'ol stuffed beaver been up to lately?
