I know more people in Louisiana who eat brown rice than white....
What can I say? I've spent most of my U.S. life on the west coast, and other than brief travels on my own, my time in the south has been spent with in-laws in Texas and Georgia, except for two unforgettable trips to New Orleans, where the food was INCREDIBLE as you know, but the rice with the red beans was white. We weren't exactly hitting the high-end restaurants in N.O., maybe that's why.
Come to think of it, maybe it's a generational and not a regional thing in the U.S. My mother (in Oregon) didn't cook much rice, but when she did, it was white and instant. As many typical boomers, when I left home I switched to brown rice, whole wheat bread, organic yada yada.
