David Foster Wallace. Never heard of him.

I pasted in just the first half of my sample. Result: David Foster Wallace

Then I pasted in just the second half. Result: Steven King.

Hmmmmmm.

Hmmmmmm.

Neither I. Pasting in samples from me here I got David Foster Wallace (interesting sort, not a good end per Wiki), Stephen King, and then Cory Doctorow. Is Doctorow the default author? Rather depressed, as I was hoping for more of a Clemens flair.

The above bit is King again per IWL. foo.

Probably his shortest one, at that. What do recommend for book two? I have seen the movies.

I've been working/playing my way thru your Joycian styles. It'll take me a while. I did take a break to read the one T-Al found for free.

My favorites are The Stand, Delores Claiborne, Pet Sematary, The Green Mile and Gerald's Game. I don't think a movie was made for Gerald's Game.

I pasted in text from a Teddy Roosevelt letter to Congress: IWL= H.P Lovecraft

I also submitted three samples of my own writing:

1. My mother's obituary: IWL= James Joyce
2. A long post from here on FIRE: IWL=David Foster Wallace
3. Letter to my mortgage company: IWL=Isaac Asimov

I suspect this is nothing more than a random name generator, probably looking for a few key words tied to an author or subject database.

Oh, I love Carrie too...I guess there are just way too many to suggest.

I saw Carrie with DH before he was DH. I think one of my elbows came in contact with his forehead at the very last scene...but he married me anyway.

Stephenie Meyer, who I had never heard of. Ick. A mormon mom who writes tacky vampire novels. I need a bath now.

When I paste in excerpts from well-known Stephen King works, the site says I write like Stephen King.

When I paste in excerpts from rare or unpublished Stephen King works, the site says I write like Ursula K. Leguin or Dan Brown.

Something's fishy....

A few more grammatical rules to live by ...

1. Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.
4. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
5. Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat)
6. Also, always avoid annoying alliteration.
7. Be more or less specific.
8. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary.
9. Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.
10. No sentence fragments.
11. Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used.
12. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
13. Do not be redundant; do not use more words than necessary; it's
highly superfluous.
14. One should NEVER generalize.
15. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
16. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
17. One-word sentences? Eliminate.
18. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
19. The passive voice is to be ignored.
20. Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary. Parenthetical words
however should be enclosed in commas.
21. Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.
22. Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.
23. Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth-
shaking ideas.
24. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate
quotations. Tell me what you know."
25. If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: Resist
hyperbole; not one writer in a million can use it correctly.
26. Puns are for children, not groan readers.
27. Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
28. Even IF a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
29. Who needs rhetorical questions?

BTW, when I entered 1-29 above into IWL, it came back as H.P. Lovecraft
