There are certain words that send a chill thru my bones. No doubt many of you ERers can relate to this also.

My lame list...

"We have to talk about ..."

"Are you sitting down?"

"This is going to cost quite a bit more than we discussed earlier."

"...and that transmission is just out of warranty too. What a shame."

I'm late !

Cart paths only.

No mulligans on the 1st tee.

Wife from shopping trip, " you won't believe how much money I saved you today."

Some assembly required

We're trying a new recipe tonight. (Usually for what was my favorite dish)

I'm tired of our tile, paint, carpet, etc.

Lets get a dog

It's only been ten short months, but apparently my opinions are far less well-informed now: "Oh, you're retired, so you don't understand (fill in the blank)."

Actually, had thought the reason I had ER'd was that there were many every-day issues I understood pretty well. (For example, is this yet another new crisis at work? Time to find a way to put these crises behind me. Is this, instead, a piece of good news? Gotta ER ASAP so there's more time to enjoy this good news and all that goes with it!)

"It is what it is."

What a useless tautology that somehow became popular.

To someone who has had cancer: "well, you could have been hit by a bus..."

"FIRECalc found that 111 cycles failed, for a success rate of 0.0%"

For me:
"What was that?"
"The sump pump quit."
"The furnace isn't working."
"We've got a leak!" (BTW it doesn't matter where or what!)

For the dog:
"We're all out of dog food."
"Bath time!"
"Bed time!"
"Time to cut your dog toenails!"

;)

Not for the same reasons, I want to scream when I hear, "At the end of the day..."

I'm not fond of "after all..." "it's only fair..." (phrases which always presage an attempt to "guilt" people into going along with something they don't want), nor of "It's Your Responsibility" (= Guess What! You are the stuckee, hah hah!)

Words I hate to hear:

"...I would do anything for love,
But I won't do that
No I won't do that"

"this is for your own good"

"this will hurt me more that it does you"

...yea right!!
