Very good. If I had picked I would have missed many more, both in the qualifying round and the finals.

"Dominated" may not accurately describe the schooling Spain did to Germany yesterday. Spain has some very exceptional talented players but the entire team possessed the ball and had the German defenders chasing the ball all over the field with their tongues hanging out. Germany might have the most promising team for the future, with so many young players, but the veteran Spanish team was simply too experienced and talented.

Should be a good final match. I'll take Spain with Xavi (#8) -- he's the best midfielder I've ever seen during the World Cups I've watched -- over Holland with their number 10.

Better hurry with those lotto picks. Seems Paul is now in trouble. German fans want revenge grilling of oracle octopus - Yahoo! News

Quote:
BERLIN (Reuters) – Some Germans are calling for a public roasting of the oracle octopus who correctly picked the winner of all six of their national soccer team's World Cup matches -- including a bitter defeat to Spain on Wednesday.

Paul, a two-year-old octopus in a German aquarium, turned into a global celebrity for his uncanny ability to predict the winner of all Germany's matches -- even a group stage defeat to Serbia and an ousting by Spain in the semi-finals.

"Nothing beats grilled octopus," said Dolores Lusch, a Germany fan who works on a Berlin fish stall. "Cut him up in thin slices and grill him on all sides with a dash of lemon juice, olive oil and garlic on it. Delicious!"

Michael, I see that with the excuse of the match you are gonna stuff your face silly!

I don´t know if I´ll watch the finals. I suffered a lot with all our matches. And as our former coach said, finals are not played, they are won. I´d rather be told if we eventually don´t make it.

I fear the fast and expeditive counterattacks of the Dutch, and, also they seem ito be in a better shape than us. We tend to get distracted/lost with our so called "toque de balón" and our command of midfield. I distrust our parlour football.

I miss what we used to call "la furia española".

BTW. Your command of culinary Spanish is amazing!!

Watch the game. Enjoy it. Spain will play well, even if it is parlour football.

Not really. I lived in Caracas for more than 20 years. The Spanish food there is the best in Latin America. (época pre-Chávez). I learned the easy way - eating. (Basque food there was truly amazing)

One goal after 117 minutes of play. The excitement was almost too much to bear.

Anyhow, congratulations Vincinte!

Soccer always bored me to death so I haven't watched it in a long time. Today I sat and watched the whole game, I don't know what was worse, the game or the horns.

It was said the 700,000,000 people watched it today, this was one world wide boring day. Maybe I'm missing something.

Note to FIFA:

I enjoy watching the game, but those damn horns make it unbearable to listen. I have tried watching with the volume down, usually end up getting disgusted and flipping it off (the game, then the TV.)

I kind of agree... I did not think that it was that great a game.... maybe someone from Europe that watches games all the time might think otherwise...

How many yellows were given I think it was 11... maybe more... I think I saw he bring it out a couple of more times....

I do think he called a pretty good game... maybe some should have gotten reds... but you do not want to change the flavor of the game... but, kicking someone in the chest is not part of the game...

On the picking of games... I came in second in my group (19 people)... I actually picked more winners, but they picked more correct scores... so 2nd it is...

I don't think you did as well as Paul the Octopus!

Paul the Octopus is just the latest to go out on top. Here's a list of others who retired at the peak of their games. - Page 2 - ESPN

I missed 3 games in the knockout stage... so no... but he did not make as many picks as I did

(just for the ones who do not know... that is 14-3)... the octopus was 8-0 from what I heard on TV...

I think that watching the Octopus on the news was more entertaining than the game.
