Apparently this saying is no longer true, or at least not true in the US, or in this instance.

Evidently the reaction in France, was much more sympathetic to Strauss-Khan. They were more inclined to take his word for it than a lowly maid, while in the US the reaction was different. Still 30+ years ago. I am sure the SOB would have been released.
