I'm pretty sure throwing human flesh on the barbie is slightly illegal in many countries. She may have to have her filets grilled elsewhere...

I don't think you're allowed to just mail a body part to someone, so that eye thing might be hard to handle.

As many of you know, I volunteer at my local shelter and am quite involved in animal rescue. PETA is not a rescue organization and has little interest in cats, dogs, and other companion animals. PETA's main focus is animals used for food, clothing, in labs and for entertainment. From their mission statement:
"PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs."
Nothing here about spaying and neutering your pets, finding homes for abandoned animals and ensuring proper care of companion animals. PETA goes against the mainstream animal rescue community on many issues such as when euthanasia is appropriate and how to deal with feral cat populations. It bums me out to think the public may confuse those interested in the welfare of companion animals with PETA.

Well said. The thing is, PETA seems to believe in the "no press is bad press" philosophy, and if they have to do downright bizarre things to get attention, then so be it. There's nothing newsworthy about an organization that simply stresses spaying and neutering and finding homes for homeless pets, and which realizes that in the real world, sometimes euthanasia (and even hunting!) is better than mass starvation due to overpopulation.
I look at PETA compared to (say) the SPCA or the HSUS as a contrast in style similar to, say, Earth First and the Nature Conservancy when it comes to environmental issues.

Actually, PETA is a big supporter of euthanasia in cases were many others think the animals can be saved. They were against the efforts of the Best Friends Animal Society in trying to work with Michael Vick's pitt bulls and thought they should all be put down. Here in Virginia, all animal organizations must report how many animals they took in and what became of them (adopted, euthanized, etc.) In 2007, they took in over 8,000 animals and only adopted 17 of them. About 6,500 were returned to their owners and over 1,700 were euthanized.
Here's the link where you can view their report to the Commonwealth of VA:
VDACS Online Animal Reporting
By the way, I'm not against hunting. Don't enjoy it myself but do agree with you it's more humane than seeing animals starve.

Tastes like chicken.
Personally, I think PETA (as well as MADD) has lost it's way. In their efforts to catch the attention of everyone, as well as their outrage that everyone doesn't agree with them, they've strayed so far off the path that no one is really sure what they are trying to accomplish. Now they're just a bunch of nutcases. Or so it appears to many. I'm sure there are plenty of members who are still doing the right thing, but they're overshadowed by the paint flinging nude cannibals. It's like the commercial that is so funny to watch that you never catch what they are trying to sell.
