You can have them...

Seems everyone is moving out of Florida, Az, and Ca to live in Texas.

This oughtta get interesting a few years down the road... Long Horn meets City Slicker.

I'm looking forward to less traffic.

I hope they enjoy the sauna-quality humidity that comes some summers...mmmmm, fun!

(This, too, shall pass. Remember when everybody was racing out to Seattle some 20-25 years ago?)

Yeah, and I also remember seeing the billboard in Seattle, "Will the last person to leave Seattle please turn out the lights?" back in '69 (?).

If my kids moved to Texas, I'd do the same.

That's only in the eastern half of the state.

Oh, nevermind! Ignore that!

I should be so happy to be in AZ, where I can go up to the high country to enjoy the nice cool (and dry!) air in the summer.

And I do not have to worry about these "foreigners" moving in from out of state either. There is hardly any private land left "in the mountain".

That's me

Maybe a few years living close to them (relatively) may change our minds

How true. We vary from wanting to be "next door" to same town, to under an hour, to half day drive (< 4h) to a comfortable one day drive (6 hr). Ups and downs to all.

The one thing we are sure about is not having to deal with airplanes every time we visit.

We returned, a week or so ago, from a two week stay in Dallas. There is a saying that "If you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere." Well, after putting around 1,000 miles on the odometer inside the D-FW metro area, I can state categorically: If you can drive in Dallas/Fort Worth, you can drive anywhere." There are way too many people trying to get to way too many places -- even the "car strangled spanner" during the heighth of Rush Hour in San Fancisco is less crowded than D/FW roads at anytime of the day. The amount of new road construction and complexity of the road system combined with the highly wound drivers make this place the most complicated I have ever visited -- which now includes every large city in the U.S.

On the other side of that coin, however, is Houston where, during a comparable period a year earlier, I found the friendliest drivers of any major city in the U.S. It was almost a pleasure to drive there. I, also, have a mini-love affair with the city of San Antonio.

That's what I was thinking...

I still laugh at my dad, describing the drivers in FL: "These old people can't drive..."

My dad is 79...

Ah yes Florida , Home to the world's worst drivers . They turn ford escorts like they are turning a semi . They put on their blinkers as the exit their garage and leave them on until they return . The only people in Florida without handicap stickers dangling from their mirrors are sixteen year old . They feel it is safe to drive with Alzheimer's as long as someone in the car can give directions .

I remember a few years ago reading about an old woman who mowed down half a dozen pedestrians, seriously hurting or even killing a few, with her full-size American 5,000-lb sedan. When told of the people she hurt, she said "Oh, that's so bad...". Gee whiz! Perhaps she was truly remorseful when saying that, but remorse does not restore the lives she ruined.

Shouldn't these people be restricted to golf carts?
