Forum Name: W2R, shortened from Want2Retire after I retired

Signature: A line from Melville's Moby Dick that has meant a lot to me for over twenty years. It is almost a definition of the spirit of adventure. When read aloud the rhythm of the sentence is reminiscent of the rocking of wooden decks beneath your feet when headed out to sea.

Maybe I should bring her back. Every now and then I try some different avatars for variety, but that photo of Eva Habermann is one that I really do like.

Well, this is easy:
Who I am and where I'm from.
My current fave picture of me at a music fest.
A great quote that I first heard from our own Nords, regarding being a moderator IIRC.
Fun idea, purr-on!

My Avatar is obviously a plate of "dessert".
My forum name came from the idea that dessert is to the meal, as retirement is to the job.
My signature is appropriate for the times I think. It may change later.

I was recently reading a book titled "Comfort Zones" by Elwood N. Chapman and wouldn't you know that there was a statement in the book that actually said "retirement was like having dessert after a good meal". I think the author is a member of this forum!

Forum name: Some combination of letters and numbers that weren't taken, sort of a vague reference to (Early) RetireD at 50, which was only a round number anyway. Didn't put any thought into it as I only intended to post once anyway (he says, some 7,300 posts later).

Actually, I have a slight aversion to avatars and sigs, as they change to their current version even when looking at some old post when they were different. Sometimes people comment on them, and then the comment is all out of context. But they're fine as decoration, or a mood change or whatever, or something to tie a visual with the name (but if they change often, you lose that connection).

Ahhh! Elvin Jones of "A Love Supreme" era John Coltrane. I honestly thought it was a boxer. Now I see what I thought was a boxing glove closing in on him is a cymbal!

That's another problem with avatars, they are so small it's tough sometimes to know what they are.

My forum name is an acronym. I change my avatar and signature periodically.

Currently, my avatar is the traditional signpost for the famous Mille Miglia motorcar race in Italy.
