$1B Lottery

With buying a lotto ticket, I am buying a few day dreams. That's ok.

As for the sweet spot of winnings, I would think for us that would be in the five million range. Enough to sweeten the pot for retirement. One Billion would actually, for me, involve work. Setting up family trusts, charitable trusts, making sure my DH didn't kill himself by driving a race car; or completely spoiling the kids and GC.

However, if I was offered one billion or five million, I suspect that I would not be able to resist the larger number. But, I would feel I would have to be responsible, i.e. with funding charities.

It’s most likely give away for me what that large amount. So what’s the point of winning.

Wow, he’s a billionaire already, last time I watched his boxing on paid TV he was merely a millionaire, multiple millions, nevertheless. The stock market must be a big help.

Agreed, DW and I just bought $14 worth for Friday's and Saturday's game. Fun to dream together.

You can dream without buying the tickets. Just dream about finding one on the street which is the winner and what you’d do with the money. Easy and cheaper 🤠

We didn't even realize the jack pot had gotten so large till the roll over for Tuesdays game. So..

The wife and I went on a little drive and bought two tickets each. One that was a quick pick and the second were numbers we each selected. Less money than going to the movies and about the same entertainment.

I asked DW what she would spend the probable $450 million taking the lump sum and after taxes with only one winner. She said, 'lots of land and new houses for each of the kids' My response was, 'but the kids houses are in other states right?'

I think anyone can claim the jackpot anonymously (through a trust) now, with a successful lawsuit of the lady that won a $560 million powerball and had already signed her full name and address to the ticket. The judge ruled she could stay anonymous and the state could only list the town she was from. So there has been a precedent set??

I agree that a smaller jackpot, maybe, $5-10 million after taxes would be plenty for us to live EXTRA comfortable and still not draw attention to ourselves.

Not to mention along with that easy and cheaper part.....and theft. ;)

But then again, not in a dream I suppose. :)

What entertainment? I don’t see it. I get mine free from my iPad. Backgammon and bridge.
If I want to win real money, I go to Las Vegas.

Or play the stock market

Plenty of weekly options which will payout 200 for 1 with much better odds than the lottery. $1000 there could net you $200k and you don't have to worry about annuity.

I see that the odds of winning the jackpot in Mega Millions are 1 in 302,575,350. According to the US Census Bureau, the population of the United States is about 329,000,000.

So the odds of winning are roughly equal to randomly picking one individual in the United States, and picking again and getting the same person!

I told DW to give me the $2 and I promise I'll pay her if she wins! :)

The pressure was too great. My son visited yesterday, and I gave him a dollar to buy one ticket for jeanie and me.

That immediately turned me into the forty top buys... so here's my starter list...

2 containers of Moose Tracks Ice Cream.
A brand new pair of SAS velrco shoes
An automatic icemaker that we failed to order when we replaced our refrigerator.
Ten new books on tape novels from the Salvation Army Store @ $.39/book.
A compressor for our kingsized air mattress , for when the grandkids come.
A pair of tactical sunglasses.
A heated bird bath for my chipping sparrows... for over the winter.
For jeanie... a "My Pillow".
A "Garage Door is Open " gadget, for when I forget.

That's the first ten of my forty choices... will come back with more, if and when they come to mind. :flowers:
