3.25% for 15 months

There may be better rates, but this week Washington Federal S&L has 3 1/4 % for 15 months, or 3% for 13 months.

I felt this was pretty good, so I took some.

I went with some I-bonds at around 3.67% - Also exempt from State Taxes. Plan to get some more next year.

I prefer I-bonds as well

fyi , you can buy $60,000 in I-bonds per year per SS#
30k online and 30k in paper bonds.
so a couple can purchase $120,000 in a calendar year.

Re: 3.25% for 15 months

A few days ago, came accross 3.4% for 12 months CD from Umbrella bank. Rate came with opening of a checking account. I guess the only thing about I bond is the 3 months penalty if cashing out before 5 years and 5 years is abit too long for me with + .27%. I'll see what happens in a year and re-allocate the CD money then. To each his own.

Do yourself a favor and check bankrates.com before you buy your CDs. It isn't perfect, but it is a good starting point.

Corus bank has 6 months 2.97% APY & 12 months 3.34% APY.

http://www.corusbank.com/

No strings attached.

Re: 3.25% for 15 months

I could never understand why banks have 11 month or 13 month CDs. Why not just keep it at 3, 6, 12 months, etc.?

Our local banks usually offer their limited promotion CDs (higher rates or lower/no withdrawal penalties) with an oddball number of months, e.g. 7, 13, 15, months etc.

I've not been able to specify oddball length terms when searching for CDs through http://bankrate.com and I found these good deals by reading the newspapers and calling around.

That is how I find my best deals, ie. by "reading the
newspapers and calling around".
