If something can be shipped cheaply, its manufacturing tends to go overseas. This also affects wages in different industries. Textile and clothing manufacuring has been hit hard.

Too lazy to google that, but somewhere (CNBC?) recently an exec was talking about bringing some of the manufacturing back here. Service and quality issues, cultural and language barriers, long leadtimes, rising energy prices...
