Anyone else seriously over budget already?
So 6 weeks into the year, I'm already quite abit over my budget. I had house repair of about $1000, a speeding ticket and am going out/dining out alot more than last year so far this year. At least the last item has meant an increase in my enjoyment level. All told I'm about 20% higher in discretionary spending so far this year + the costly house repair. Anyone else started off the year poorly?

I'm over budget in travel and clothes so far this year. Course I also have a travel reserve left over from last year. So, after my cruise this month, I won't be traveling much this year nor will I be buying clothes until about June, when I should have a positive amount in that pot again.

Other than buying the new Toyota Venza (and spending 150% of my entire 2009 expenditures to do so) , I am at or slightly below budget.
The new vehicle was a planned purchase, though the cost was a little more than I had had in mind. So, I have got to "watch my p's and q's" for a few months and keep my spending down.

Easy solution seems to be~stay out of your car.

We are seriously over budget this first 2 months. The flight and other costs of going to the UK at Christmas for Dad's funeral hit in January. Then we had the interstate moving costs immediately after RE'ing, and we have now paid 50% deposits on our extended trips to Colorado and Canada later this year.
But we are not worried at all, even if we are way over budget by year end. I still don't expect our SWR to rise above 3% this year despite the big 1st year price tag.

Even with buying a new washing machine, income is still above outgo.

I will be pretty soon. Car repairs rear their ugly head...
We had to terminate our monthly contribution to the annual vacation fund in order to save up for an $1100 heater core + thermostat + audio speaker replacement j*b for the Jeep. The labor is the killer part - the heater core is hidden behind the dashboard.
We will resume the contributions in late April.

Fortunately I am well under last years pace. I had a steady girl friend last year and none right now and this is the main reason I am spending a lot less.

Drives like a dream! Actually it drives very similarly to my Solara - - even though I had never driven an SUV before, there was no need to adjust since it is just as responsive and easy to drive as a car. It has a lot more zip, though, due to the V-6. I like the suspension. Also it seems very maneuverable to me and the relatively low center of gravity adds to the fun in driving it.
After just one test drive I was SO sold on it. There was no turning back!

Well, since I carry over from the prior year.... yes, I am over budget this year even before we spent any money...
Trying to get the wife to spend less, but she is resisting... says we need to 'live in the moment more'... since her first husband died young, it is difficult to change her thinking much... but I am working on it....

While I don't budget, I do track expenses, and I'm happy to say its the opposite for me.
January 2010 was my lowest spending month since I started keeping track 3 years ago.

My Grand-daughter has everything in the world already, so I don't try to add to the surfeit. I do try to be around, to take the family to the airport, to bring them a meal occasionally, to watch their house when they travel etc.
I am her only Grandfather so I take my role seriously. Her car seat is in my car now, waiting for me to pick them up from their trip. Brings back nice memories to see it back there, though modern car seats are really something compared to the 70s and 80s versions!
Congrats, Saluki and Mrs. Saluki and Baby Saluki. Best thing in your life, and maybe the hardest!
