I have seen posts where people talk about their firecalc results and talk about their percentage withdrawal such as it is based on 4% or 3% or whatever.

I realized been making an assumption about firecalc which seems to be supported in what I read about it but want to check.

In our case, I run it showing immediate income from SS for my DH but not starting SS withdrawals for me until 5 years later. The spending number I put it, if based solely on DH's SS, would be 5% of the portfolio for those 5 years then when I draw SS would drop to 3.5% assuming that firecalc is drawing the spending number each year such that for the first 5 years more is coming out of the portfolio than for the last 35 years (I usually run it with 30, 35, and 40 year plans).

Am I correct that this is how firecalc does this?
