If you had > $500K in pension lump sum that you wanted invest as the fixed income portion of your portfolio, what does everyone think of the following allocation:

Mortgage Backed Securities (Ginnie Mae, etc) 45%
Preferred Stocks 15%
Corp Bond/CD 5 yr Laddar 40%

Although there is some degree of risk, this approach could probably yield ~6 to 7+%.
