Converting US to Canadian Dollars

I'm thinking of buying a used camping trailer in Canada in the $15,000 - $20,000 range. What would be the least expensive way to exchange US for Canadian currency?

If you have an investment account, you can do Norberts Gambit in which you sell/buy a dual-listed stock on the NYSE and the TSX all for the trading fee.

Very interesting. I wonder if this is something Fidelity would help me with.

Since you have fido account, you might explore having them provide the funds you are looking for in a Canadian $ cashier check. Another option is to use a wire transfer--no fee to you if you are Private Client. You should get a very low currency fee but need to confirm since I have not done this exact transaction but they do give you a great rate when you use their debit card.

I have in the past bought yen in the past when DS was studying in Japan. I just wired it to his bank. I did this at fidelity. My PC team helped.
