Does anybody know about "Supplemental retirement income"

Hi guys--

I got an email from Intl Living today and it was from Dr. Steve Sjuggerud (sugar-rude) about a National Policy 41-201 entitled Supplemental Retirement Income and its ability to put
$15-75,000 in our greedy little paws. I Googled it and found some questionable down sides.

Have any of you heard or been party to this concept that is supposed to be way better than Social Security. Or is it one of those "to good to be true" schemes? Thanks for the info.

I suspect that it is some variation on "Whole Life" insurance annuities or variable annuities.

These can be structured so that you borrow against the principal and gains and get tax-free withdrawals.

The downside of these approaches are that the fees and loads are tremendous. In general you can probably do much much better putting your money in your IRA/401k or even after tax investments and just paying the normal taxes as you liquidate them.

- In short steer clear

Sjuggerud is talking about income trusts. "SRI" is just his cute name for them. They are investment vehicles like REITs in Canada, but they can own more than just real estate. There are lots of energy income trusts that own drilling rights.
