where to put my 23,000 that I might be using this next year for renovating our house... it is in the credit union not making anything. thanks

I keep my spare cash in CDs in Ally or Penfed depending on the CD rates. The savings that I access occasionally is in Ally.

Online savings accounts are FDIC insured, immediately available and pay between 0.75% and 1.25%.
