Not the leader of pack but still a nice convenient place for store your emergency money. It's hard to believe that this time last year, they were paying the wopping rate of 3%.

Yeah - just after I broke down and moved my money to HSBCdirect.* Now, ING has a special for 4.75% through mid-April ( the interest rate reverts after that ).* So, I'm switching back to ING!

And I just moved all my cash to vanguards prime. Where its gonna stay. :P

Is there sombody paying more that has no minimums or other restrictions? (I *still* have my money sitting at 0.75%...keep thinking I may immediately need it...wasted at least 3 months of interest this way.)

(I saw the ING thing but think I'd like to pick a place and stick with it...I'm not much of a chaser.)

Vanguards gotten a little more competitive lately. Emigrant always seems to have at least a quarter point edge over ING. About the only diff I can see is that emigrant and ING take their sweet time about transferring both in and out while vanguard seems to take one business day to do it. I'll lose a few pennies a year to keep it all in one place.

It has not been my experience
With Emigrant, when I schedule a withdrawal b4 5PM, the amount shows up in my checking account the next day.
With ING, it takes an additional day.
They seemed to be pretty consistent with this schedule.

I've never gotten a transfer with either in under 3 business days. Weird.

I've been getting 4.5% (totally liquid) for several months now with very few
restrictions (I had to open a personal checking account).
Rate is guaranteed for 9 months I think. This is a local bank.
While we were in Texas I was reading the Dallas Morning News and several banks were running big ads for new money
and paying way less than I am getting right here.
Pretty interesting. Also, I bought a 7 month CD today
paying 4.75%. Also a local bank.

I am parking my money in Vangaurd Tax Exempt Money Market- yield 2.89% - same as 4.0% before tax.

My 4% is the same as 4% before tax. Or after tax.

Avoid that tax thing. Makes a lot of stuff a lot easier to figure out...

I think it was Justin who mentioned that it might be better to go with VG Federal than VG Prime for state tax reasons. Might make sense because you, like me, are in high-tax CA.
