Congratulations Matthew. Nice article.

Just curious, out of the millions of Fidelity investors, how in the world were you singled out?

Did you have reservations about revealing as much financial info as was in the article? That would be my main problem if I am ever selected by Vanguard for a simular piece. :

Congrats of being profiled...if thats your thing. No way would I agree to be in a magazine and have my finances published for all to see...

Don't take this the wrong way...but I laughed when I read "Saving for retirement is easy" and then find out that $1M of the portfolio was inheritied. I would assume an awful lot of people would think retirement would be easy if $1M came falling out of the sky too...

It's on page 15.

I think they left off part of your quote. The end of the article has:

“Having a plan is the most important thing,” he says.

But was this the full quote?

“Having a plan is the most important thing,” he says, "But inheriting $1 million dollars worth of property sure doesn't hurt!"

Still waiting for the story about the guy/gal who retired no later then their early 50s from an 8-5 type gig, without a pension or company/government funded medical, no inheritance and the spouse still not working. Please stand up, I want to shake your hand.

Nice to meet you. According to my poll, almost 35% of the ER's here match that description pretty well.

If you can't turn 1.7M into 2.0M in three years, you aren't trying hard enough.

Also get a load of the family on page 19....
They plan on turning 800K into 3-4.5M by doubling every 7 years.
Good luck with that...

Off the top of my head there's John Greaney over at RetireEarlyHomePage.com, Philip Greenspun over here, and Gary "How I Trade For A Living" Smith, who occasionally posts at FundVision.com.

Notice a pattern in the marriages & kids departments?

There's also the Terhorsts and the Kaderlis.
