figuring taxes/401k contributions

OK, I need some help. I don't get to claim D5 next year due to the divorce decree granting alternating years.

I can, however, claim head of household as I have primary custody. Plus I have $5200 worth of alimony I can write off (yah!... not).

My thought is to increase my 401K contributions to offset the loss of deduction/child tax credit.

How do I go about figuring this out? I thought of plugging all of my info into paycheck city calculator and fooling with the deductions to see what the take home would be.

Also plug the info in to the IRS W4 calculator as well?
