Hey, post some of the good ones. It would be nice to see a 10 year review of the predictions made on Wall Street Week In Review.

Re: Forbes 2006 Investment Guide

I, too, buy and save some of the 'retirement' annual magazines. (Still have not found the magic formula yet.) I buy them mostly for the articles about living in Portugal on the beach, etc,

There was a Beauty back in 2000 or 2001 that had' ten stocks for the new millenium'. You can imagine which ones they were (e.g., Enron, etc.). I looked backwards a year later and found out how truly bad that advice was. Now that I know how to use the table function in this editor, I will share the results when I can find them. The loss was on the order of 75% of the original investment--in one year!! Talk about financial pornography!

Re: Forbes 2006 Investment Guide

Bah...

Speaking about living in Portugal.. a link on this current Forbes retirement issue takes you to an article about foreign real estate, quoting some financial "expert" talking about foreign exchange issues.

Not worth the time to find the exact text/link but..

The "expert" was talking about converting dollars to lira!!*

Hello?!? Ever heard of the euro?* A little thing they cooked up, oh... about four years ago.

Makes you wonder about the accuracy of anything they print in that rag.. financial porn, indeed.

*and no, the country he was referring to wasn't Turkey.

I read the same ones a couple of years ago in a doctors office (come on guys, new magazines dont cost much!).

"Enron, worldcom, tyco (yada yada yada) are SUPER blue chips and are must-owns at ANY price. They will dominate their respective business segments for decades to come and will maintain their rocket-like growth!".

Ehh....not so much...

Re: Forbes 2006 Investment Guide

ladelfina,

OK, you got me. I only buy them for the pictures of the ladies in swimsuits on the beach in the Algarve.

Is it not amazing how these stories always get around to buying real estate? Advice of a similar quality as buying Enron stock.

Cheers,

Ed

Re: Forbes 2006 Investment Guide

Forbes in particular is not a serious magazine.

I really don't even get why it exists. Wanna read about golf? Get Golf Digest. Wanna read about cigars? Get Cigar Aficionado. Wanna read about mansions 'n' stuff? Get Town & Country. Wanna read about planes, trains, and automobiles? Get the Robb Report.

I guess it's kinda like Reader's Digest for CEO-wanna-bes.

Ed, I don't think I hafta tell ya where to get pix of "ladies in swimsuits"!*

You don't have to wait on us. Here's the 2005 issue (published Dec 2004) and I think BW's archives are searchable without a subscription.
