Interesting.

The six suggested banks closest to me (closest 661 miles) require large minimum balances ($24-$75,000) or some minimum number of Debit Card purchases (10) for bonus earnings. Nevertheless, the interest rates of 2.5% to 4.3% on below minimum balances is tempting. (Or would be if I still used banks like I did in a past life.)

A local CU was offering a checking account that paid something like 4.5% interest in an ad that the local paper printed recently. The small print revealed many hoops that the account-holder had to jump thru each month including the use of the debit card to make over a dozen transactions each month.

I do not like hoops so I will keep my old low interest/non hoop account active.
