This article makes a good point about today's real interest rates compared to the 80s when nominal interest rates were high.

The article said "If the Fed hits the two percent target for inflation, a 2.0% CPIU, then the real after-tax yield is a negative 0.09%."

The inflation rate in all of 2012 was 2.1%. It was 3.2% in all of 2011.
