Re: How much did you spend in 2006?

I don't have it broken down by category, but about $12,000.

This is most dominated by food for me/girlfriend and a $1500 1-week liveaboard sailing class.
My employer pays my rent while on expat assignment in Taiwan, so that definitely helps.

If you add taxes to the equation, this number jumps to $51,600.

I only started carefully tracking in the middle of the year. But, pro rated, about $82,000 which includes $14,400 in alimony.

Re: How much did you spend in 2006?

Well, I'm relieved. I thought everyone here lived on $40k per year.

I usually figure this out when I do my taxes. I have my spreadsheet for my future savings plan and I stick to that through auto deductions. After that I spend what's left guilt free.

I did get some gift money this year that was spent vacations. I think my 2006 spending will be the highest yet.

Re: How much did you spend in 2006?

So far only a couple of people living on 40K or less per year both are single. As I've stated on a few occasions it would extremely difficult to achieve this level of spending unless you plan to deprive yourself.

2006 Spending 129,000

major contributors:

40,000 Total taxes including Property
16,000 Home remodeling (new windows)
15,000 Mortgage
9,000 Food
7,000 utilities

Of course, it does need to be considered from a 'cash flow' POV - it moves from liquid to less-liquid, but, IMO, it is not really 'spent'.

Same thought on home improvements. If I spend $10K on a remodel, do some of the work myself, and I can reasonably expect it to add $10K to the value of the house - did I 'spend' the money, or just 'transfer' it from cash to Home Equity?

Those two examples just seem different from spending the money on something (pure consumables) that does not add to your net-worth.

A little bit more than last year. We expended $145K with about $50K of that being taxes.

Re: How much did you spend in 2006?

Personal spending approximated $90K in 2006. That included $45K for a piece of property, a nonrecurring event. The remaining $45K is a reasonable estimate of basic expenses in retirement, since all work related expenses are channeled through a corporation. However, taxes would be reduced in ER.

Well, the mechanics of it are here, but unless there is a way to expedite moving row/columnar data and incorporating the BBcodes, this is a lot more trouble than it's worth!

Re: How much did you spend in 2006?

Okay, Excel will generate HTML code for you from your spreadsheet data if you like (I guess I knew this but never messed with it) but it is exceedingly sloppy. I did a simple 8X8 cell table and it looks to be about 100 lines. Plus you would then need to strip that down, and exchange the HTML format tags for the BB format tags... ugh.

And oops, I guess I have wandered way off topic here, sorry.
