Thanks Dave,
I used that same guide a couple of years ago after being shell shocked from the IRS Transcript hack. Helped calm my nerves back then.
At that time, I didn't do a credit report request and freeze on Innovis. Just finished that now. Was relatively painless and didn't require talking to a live person.

As I understand it, my son received this from a fellow Googler and shared it with me. My role was as a member of the Pony Express or perhaps Dominoes delivery. I didn't make the pizza but it seems like I got it to your house on time.
Glad it is helpful.

This would make a great addition to our FAQ on identity theft, which I hope to update and make useful in the next couple of days.

Funny, I could have sworn I saw that document before but maybe not.
Jogging my memory, when I experienced the IRS hack a couple of years ago, I went to the FTC site as guide:

Thank you! 😁
I have no idea who put it together, but agree with your comments.

Thanks for sharing this doc. I got stuck on step one. I visited the My Social Security site and it gave me an error message that it couldn't process my request. I got a similar error earlier today when I tried to freeze credit at one of the big 3 bureaus. Oy!!

Thanks Dave! I found the TransUnion freeze link especially useful.
I now have placed a freeze on the big 3 for both myself and DW.

Thank you for this list. I had already signed up for mySS and added credit freezes a couple of years as a result of previous posts on this board. I will follow through on other items and share this with my family! Love the sharing on this forum. It truly helped DH and I position ourselves for financial security and early retirement.
