Re: Impetus for FIRE?
I've heard the line "You can either retire FROM something or TO something. The second is more fun."
Looking at the posts from the people who have retired, it seems that "From" is pretty common.
That's my situation. I was quite sure I didn't want to keep the job (new CEO, deteriorating culture, didn't want to to deal with the same silly questions another time), didn't want to try to start all over somewhere else, knew the dollars added up okay, so I quit.
I had some generic things to do, but nothing so compelling that I just had to quit to make time for it.
Right now, I'm just enjoying the fact that I can go to bed knowing that I don't have to go to work in the morning. I tell working people it feels like a weekend that never ends, and that sounds appealing to them.
