Investing in commercial property

My wife was watching '17 kids and counting' and the episode was about how they save money etc. At one point they went into some detail on how they own a number of commercial properties and rent them out.

I was just wondering if anyone here has done that and how it went. I've been interested in it for awhile but haven't done much digging, and I don't know anyone who already does it to ask questions. I've invested in residential property before.

Anyone know of any good books/websites/forums on this topic?
