(Beware of proud parent rant!)
Wife and I've saved $60k for each of two teenagers in college savings plans. The oldest is a senior and just got a letter that child 1 will receive a $14,000 scholarship ($3,500/year) at the state university she plans to attend! Child 1 is an outstanding student and will likely receive a regents scholarship that could cover the rest of the cost of college, but getting that first significant scholarship notice was certainly nice!
We have $60k saved that should be close to covering 4 years. We talk here about AA and rates of return, etc., what a difference having college paid for would make...instead of spending down that $60k, having it grow to maybe $80k when she graduates.
Good thing child takes after mother, huh?!!
