There is an old saying in Portuguese: "amigos, amigos, negócios ŕ parte", that loosely translates as "never mix friendship with business."

I've always thought that was wise, just like the standard separation of romance from workplace relationships.

I should add that as a CFP myself, I am horrified at the idea of soliciting friends for business. Never mind that the firm I work for doesn't do work for the sort of friends I have (LOL), I only offer to help if asked, and do just Not sell, not pester, just give impartial advice that is, as I always say, worth what they paid for it!

Tell him it is great to know he is a FA. Now you know who to call for free advice.

He will surely start to duck your calls.
