Re: Low Interest Rates Here To Stay?

Scott Burns' book "The Coming Generational Storm"
is an eye opener on the long term outlook for
interest rates. He and his co-author (Laurence
Kotlikoff) hold the view that the non-reversible
aging of our population (and the world) coupled
with failure of political will will lead to higher
inflation, perhaps approaching hyper inflation, in
the future. But, who knows when the "future" will
be upon us? I placed my bet with floating rate CD's
that pay 2%+CPI. And, in my equity allocation, I
have committed 28.6% to international funds.

Cheers,

Charlie

Wouldn't it be a hoot if John Galt had the last laugh after all!

Re: Low Interest Rates Here To Stay?

Charlie--

If those guys are right we should see those LT rates start to move higher some time. But when? If not, what then? If we are into a long term secular low inflation period, then those 4% LT rates may look pretty rich in hindsight. John Galt will be clipping his coupons while the rest of us will be kicking ourselves for not locking in while we had the chance. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Re: Low Interest Rates Here To Stay?

Hello Donner! John Galt will have "the last laugh"
regardless. Why? Well, if it isn't fun, I avoid it. If
everything ceases to be fun, well.............. Elvis will
have left the building by then................ I control
my own destiny. If that goes, I would not want to live,
anyway.

As far as my no stocks/all bonds situation, in the big scheme it means little one way or the other. If you look at the world in the context of millennium, then what we
do or say is insignificant, to say the least.
