Managed Bond Fund

So six months ago my Fido advisor suggested I look at a shorter duration bond fund. Current bond fund is AGG. At the time he suggested a shorter duration managed fund (GIBLX) and it looks like it would have been a good buy.

I know the general concession here is managed equity funds aren't worth the expenses, but is there a reason a managed bond fund might be worth the expenses?

How are you measuring GIBLX to say a good buy over past 6 months? I'm seeing about zero total return and the duration would still be too high for my liking at this point.

Well better than AGG in both one year and year to date.
