Medicare Pt. B Premiums For 2012 Set
Medicare Announces Premiums for 2012, Part B Increase Just $3.50 Monthly for Most
My premium will actually go down. This article contains a very complete explanation.

I suppose I'll eventually be notified what's going to happen with my Part B premium, but I couldn't figure it out from the article. It's now $110.50/month for me and the same for my wife.

If you filed a joint tax return for 2010 and your MAGI was $170K or less, you and your wife will each pay $99.90 per month in 2012.

Is that true? Does the article say this? I see in the article:

so I guess I see where you got the figure $99.90. But it says that is a decrease from $115.40. As I said, I'm paying $110.50, not $115.40, so that is just confusing. The article mentions "most beneficiaries" and "most seniors" --- how can I tell whether I'm in that group? I just don't agree that this article is a model of clarity.

Evidently, you went on Medicare in 2010 when the part B premium was $110.50 and didn't get an increase in 2011 because there was no SS COLA. Folks on Medicare prior to 2010 were paying $96.40 and were frozen for the two years there was no SS COLA. In 2012 everyone who isn't means-tested will pay $99.90.
