Need help with my investing
Okay. I'm ready to try and get my financial house in better order. I have a 401K that is settled among the investment choices prescribed. Not much else I can do there for now.
I have $270,000 in a money market earning 1%. I'd like to keep about $100,000 in cash. That leaves $170,000 able to invest. Also, I have three accounts with Oppenheimer that are iin some doggy funds from which I really want to escape. Two of these accounts are DW and my IRA accounts. Mine is only $6500 and hers is $59,000. The other account is $24,000 and is not an IRA.
I have read enough to appreciate the Bogle philosphy of investing over my experience with managed services. Indexing seems very agreeable to me. But in looking on the Vanguard site I quickly get confused between ETF's, regular index funds, mutual funds, etc. And I sure don't know which ones to choose.
I would like to just choose a few (3-4) index funds that allocate the above balances across equities and bonds. Probably a 65/35 split. Maybe a little international exposure but probably not very much.
Can someone help suggest the funds I should look into to accomplish this? Also, will be leaving Oppenhiemer. Guess I will go with Vanguard for a new brokerage account(s) unless someone has other suggestions.
Sorry to be an investing ignoramous. But that is what I am. Any help is appreciated.
