I just got my $100 giftcard today. It's a prepaid Penfed AMEX card with $100 on it. It's good for 1 year. I signed up for the Penfed AMEX card in November. So far they have delivered everything just like their promotion said. I'm very pleased. I've got 37,000 points so far. I'll use it until 12/31/10 to get all the extra points then my plan is to cash in for airline tickets next fall before the $50 fee comes due.

just got this personal email from Penfed about my AMEX card:

"We are writing to inform you that a new credit card is being mailed to you as a precautionary measure against any potential fraud exposure"

anyone know what this would be all about?

Check your account online. Sounds like Penfed detected fraud activity on your card, closed your account and is issuing you a new account number.

Me, too. They must be dealing with a large scale hack.

Both my Visa and my Amex card have been closed and they are issuing new cards with new numbers in relation to this. They said they will provide the details in a snail mail letter they have sent.

On the bright side, I got my $100 gift card today from the Amex account I recently opened. Nice deal!

Notice Penfed is offering a version of this special right now. I ordered round trip air on the airline of my choice at the time I wanted from the Penfedpremiumrewards.com redemption site (nonstop PDX x PSP on Alaska, 12/24-12/29). Airline confirmation code received. Easy & transparent. My $650 in spending that I'd have spent anyway returned about $450 in preloaded debit card and airfare.

Big thumbs up! (hey - it's PenFed - that's even better than saying it's Costco!)

Great deal!
I got some nice free Hilton nights on my last trip, so I'm also a fan of this card.

So a couple days ago I checked remaining points on the reward program - what the heck - still had about 8000 points after the free round trip ticket, so I spent those points down by ordering a couple kitchen knives and a bathroom scale - probably $60-70 bucks worth of value, shipped free to us.

Today, after noting that the items have shipped, I called the Penfed call center in the exotic far off location called "Eugene Oregon". Managed to understand Herb's funny accent - Eugene Oregon is about 60 miles south of here - and he is going to cancel the Amex card and request that the card limit that was shifted from my Penfed Visa be shifted back. Thanks for the free $510 or so Penfed - I love you guys.
