Re: Poll: What kind of investor are you?

I would say all bonds together (mostly junk) yield about 7%
per annum. CDs and MMs average 3%. Real estate (half of our net worth)...............
I have no idea. Just know it's up.

I'm eclectic - or eccentric - mostly S&D with some mad money as in unclemick2 - follow momentum @ bob's just for an alternative view - 30% cash/bonds, 20% International, 50% LC & MC -

YTD portfolio is up 4.5%

How are you guys calculating returns? With all of the cash going in, cash coming out, dividends, trades, etc., it is NOT simple for my portfolio.
Pretty easy for me ... call a realtor or two, once or twice a year to get comps.

RE up ~10% YTD.
Stocks down ~2% YTD.

Re: Poll: What kind of investor are you?

As much as I buy the indexing funds argument, I can't bring myself to do it.
I have about 15 stocks in my Ameritrade account that I get dividends from.
Have most of my Vanguard 401k money in the "fixed fund", pays about 4%.
Also have some Dodge & Cox Stock and Balanced funds - I believe D&C are terrific funds, low cost too. Also, have some money in CD's.

The only one of those definitions I even remotely recognize, and it's TA. I didn't think this was THAT kind of site, now!

Re: Poll: What kind of investor are you?

Hmmm- ballpark - his and hers(da SO):

75% Vanguard Lifestrategy mod and cons(since they became availible in the 90's).
10% REIT Index(circa 1998)
5% misc putz junk - Hi yield bonds, Int bonds, Small cap value index.

10% Individual DRIP stocks(started about 1989)

Classic Bogle - 'core and explore.'

12 th year of ER - looking for that elusive combo of defense and offense.

BTY - current div/interest of the above plus early SS, two small pensions - is more than enough per FireCalc.

We sold and consumed the duplex in the first ten years.

Hat's off to you successful RE cats - REIT Index - is as close as I want to get in my - er ah old age - living in a fish camp is RE enough for me. I'd rather rent - but she likes it - a non financial decision - descretion being the better part of valor and all that rot.

Heh, heh, heh.

P.S. As to DRIPs - may switch to kayaks - if I ever get bored.

Re: Poll: What kind of investor are you?

Very finely sliced:

10%* Emerging Markets
22%* Foreign Stocks
* 5%* US Large Cap Stocks
20%* Real Estate
10%* Oil, Gas, and Commodities
30%* Cash and Bonds
* 3%* Gold

No individual stocks; mutual funds from Vanguard, Fidelity, and Third Avenue. ETF for the gold.

Just got settled into this allocation this year, so no results to report yet.
