Purchasing stocks or IRA - investing for another person...

Mom wants to know what I'd like for my upcoming birthday. Of course I said IRA or stocks. She tried purchasing stocks for my brother (?) and the broker screwed it up - essentially just added it to her portfolio. Any suggestions I can relay to her? Just plain 'ol cash seems impersonal...

Thanks

Re: Purchasing stocks or IRA - investing for another person...

I have done this a few times, out of the stocks I already own. I just
had them send me a stock certificate with the recipients name on
it, then presented it to them (along with the tax basis info). There
was some small fee involved.

The recipient can just keep the certifiacte and get the dividends, or
open up their own account and deposit them.
