A start-up wants to save you money in a way most people don't know exists

"I was very aware of my category rewards — like two times points on dining and three times points on travel — but I had no idea that other rewards and offers existed, so I decided to see what I missed out on," Mackinnon says. "It was actually really frustrating. I bought a TV at Lowe's and I could have earned $75 cash back if I had just shopped through my bank shopping portal. It was a similar thing with our couch and bed."

In total, he missed out on nearly $400 worth of extra points and cash back during the two-month moving period.

I ran into something similarto what the founder of the company experienced last year. I was buying washer/dryer and appliance suite for a rental. If I had looked at discover deals on the discovercard website, registered for the deal and then used the discover card in the store, I would have saved an additional 10%.

Thanks for that, RonBoyd - I'll definitely give it a try. Sounds like no cc info needs to be supplied other than the type of card and affiliated bank/issuer

I gave it a try right now and am disappointed. They're showing me deals that don't apply to me.

eg. I registered my United Airlines mileageplus card and it shows me deals only apply to the Ultimate Rewards cards like the Sapphire Preferred. Their Amex deals do not show up when I log in.

Great idea. Wish it worked!

Same here. The Citi deals they are showing me don't apply to the Costco card, which is my only Citi card. I'll leave the extension installed in Chrome for a while and see if their data improves.

I haven't used kard but will give it a try. Learning to use cash back portals combined with deal stacking and cash back credit cards has been a big money saver for us in retirement. It took awhile for me to learn the best combinations for us and our shopping habits but it has been like learning chess - now I know the patterns it has become easier over time.

Hmm - want this to work, but would prefer it to read and identify the chipped cards in my wallet and then get my location so it knows I'm in Best Buy or Home Depot. Then it could tell me any special deals... When I drive out to buy a widget if HD doesn't have it I'm going to Lowes - or wherever - in any case if I'm shopping I'm probably buying, which I'd like to do as cheaply as possible. I don't want to hunt online to find out my most likely discount hardware store - I want to go where I expect to find the widget first, THEN get it at a discount.

For fun shopping therapy for stuff you didn't have any idea you needed try

I contacted them through their web page and got a response saying that they'll look into the issues I reported. At least they're responsive. I'll try again in a couple of months.
