Short term investment advice

Where would you suggest someone park a rather substantial amount of funds ($300 - 400k) that will be needed over the next 3 - 4 years.

If you need after three years from now until four years from now then I'd put it into 3-4-year CDs.

If you need it a little every year for the next 3-4 years then I'd put one quarter in a money-market account and the other three-quarters in 1-, 2-, and 3-year CDs.

Is this a trick question? Were we supposed to respond "Buy gold!!" ?!?

No trick question. I felt CDs was really the only viable alternative. I was just looking for other possibilities. Thanks.
