Comcast's Xfinity financial section today has an article on how even 'good' financial planners can provide bad advice for their clients - all the while believing said advice is appropriate. The Comcast article is a summary of one shown on the AARP website in March, and that article is by Allan Roth.

The only point I disagree with is his admonishment to skip the free dinner. I try to go every other month, get dinners for wife and I, and then report back to AARP on what I heard.

I've seen a lot of vulnerable people at these dinners. Most of the attendees are just there for the free stuff, but you can spot the others.
