As soon as I read your Aunt Alma's "poem", I thought she just had to be a lady with a real zest for life. And your description of her certainly attests to this. Again, thanks for sharing!

Re: The reason for FIRE!

I went to a small party yesterday in honor of a friend's mother's 85th birthday and her son's high school graduation. All 3 generations were in fine fettle. I had a fabulous conversation with the Golden Oldie--discussing politics with aplomb, phenomenal memory, full of personality and verve. What fun! We had to bug-out early for a Spoleto Festival event--Indian dnace & music. Beautiful! What a great day. Today we're getting ready for our long weekend in Edisto. Life is good The only downer at the moment are the strange dreams I had last night...in one, I woke up in the hospital having had surgery for kidney cancer and in the other I was watching fireworks from a bridge and an earthquake started shaking everything and we were all running down the stairwell of what seemed to be a parking garage. I kept getting separated form my husband. Man, I hope it was the pickled asparagus or something!

Even little sailor agrees with both of you.
Also here is a proof that he has a good beer taste - look at his face after tasting some Budweiser:

be careful. I used to let my toddlers taste my beer on the theory that it was better to not let them develop an unnatural curiosity by being emphatically told no.

I had to revise this approach when my 3-year-old at the time son ran over to a total stranger's table at a pizza parlor and helped himself to a big pull out of the guy's beer mug. He was not impressed. After that, I cut off my kids. Not sure why they never did this with soda pop.

I hate it when that happens. We rarely drink these days (wife is pregnant, and I'm courteous).

My kids grew up around beer. I made it at home and they were taught the finer points about the history and evolution of beer as it relates to society and the Industrial Revolution. 8)

Actually, they usually went out to play somewhere else because of the odors created during the boiling process.

They are in their twenties now and appreciate good beer.

Re: The reason for FIRE!

of course, my kid wants to drink whatever I have. I tried letting him taste wine and beer figuring the taste would put him off of begging. No such luck. Wants it twice as much now.

I had a dog like that. *He would drink anything you had except Coke. *Beer, wine, mixed drink... but no soft drinks. *His favorite was 43 on the rocks. *He would follow you all over the house sniffing and trying to catch up with you. *Being a 130 lbs. Shepard/Chow mix he could be rather persuasive at times. *

Well, there's plenty of sweet wines that aren't dry at all and taste more like grape juice. Then there's my watered down light beers I like that aren't hardly bitter at all (miller high life lite, bud light).

IMHO

Good beer=very bitter
Good wine=very dry

Bud and Miller are not beer in my world.
Sweet wine is like Cool Aid.

I can see we have polar opposite tastes in beer and wine. Good thing your dollars and demand aren't driving up the price of my beer and wine

ah, but a good German bock beer, an actual Bavarian hefeweizen, many if not most scotch ales, and quite a few styles of Belgian beer, are not very bitter, but are very good.

no argument about budmillercoors not really being beer. But a beer doesn't have to be an IPA or and ESB to be good.
